Fixture Installation in Los Angeles, CA
A new fixture is only as good as its installation. We set fixtures level, sealed, and supplied correctly so they look and perform like they should.
When to call for fixture installation
Common signs we see on residential and commercial properties:
Fixtures fail at their connections, not their bodies
A sink, tub or shower body lasts decades. What fails is everything joining it to the plumbing — and that is where installation quality shows up, usually a year or two later.
Supply connections, drain assemblies, tailpieces and traps are the components under stress from movement, temperature and use. A connection that is merely tight enough on the day will weep once the material has cycled through a few hundred hot-and-cold changes.
Which is why old supply lines, shut-off valves and drain assemblies get replaced during a fixture change rather than reused. They are the cheapest parts of the job and the ones that fail into the cabinet or the floor.
Drain and vent are the constraint on moving anything
Installing a fixture where one already exists is straightforward. Moving one is a different job, and the reason is drainage rather than supply.
Supply lines are pressurised, so they can be routed almost anywhere. Waste lines rely on gravity and need continuous fall to the existing connection — so whether a sink can move to the other side of a room depends on whether that slope can be achieved in the available depth.
Venting matters just as much and is less understood: every trap needs a vent to stop siphoning, and a fixture relocated beyond the reach of proper venting will gurgle and lose its trap seal, which is what lets sewer odour into the room.
Establishing what is achievable before a layout is fixed is far cheaper than discovering it during installation.
Shower and tub work is a waterproofing job
Tub and shower installations differ from other fixtures because the failure mode is not a visible drip — it is water getting behind the finished surface.
The valve body sits inside the wall, and the connection between it and the trim has to keep water out of the cavity. The pan or tub-to-wall junction is the other critical point. Both are covered by finish, so a defect is invisible until the surrounding material has been wet long enough to show.
That is why these are pressure-tested before anything is closed up. Where a shower has been leaking behind the wall for a while, it becomes a leak detection problem rather than a fixture problem.
Accessible and specialty fixtures
Grab bars, comfort-height fixtures and accessible layouts have specific mounting and clearance requirements, and the mounting is the part that matters — a grab bar is only as good as the blocking behind the wall, so it needs solid backing rather than a drywall anchor.
Commercial and public restrooms carry accessibility requirements at the fixture that a residential installation does not, covering clearances, heights and controls. Those are cheaper to design in than to correct after inspection.
Fixture Installation FAQ
Can I move my sink to the other side of the bathroom?
It depends on drainage, not supply. The waste line needs continuous fall to the existing connection, and it needs proper venting where it ends up. Both are worth checking before the layout is settled.
Why does my new sink drain gurgle?
Gurgling means air is being drawn through the trap, which usually points at a venting problem — common after a fixture is relocated. Left alone it siphons the trap dry and lets odour into the room.
Should the shut-off valves be replaced with the fixture?
If they are old or stiff, yes. They are inexpensive and already accessible during the work, and a valve that will not close is what turns a future small leak into a whole-property shutdown.
Can you install a fixture I bought?
Yes. Worth confirming the connection type and rough-in dimensions match what is already there, since those are the incompatibilities that cannot be adjusted on site.
