Every era of plumbing on one street
Los Angeles has almost every kind of building stock. Craftsman and pre-war homes with galvanised supply and clay laterals sit near post-war slab tracts with copper underneath, near mid-century multi-unit buildings, near recent construction. Two houses on the same block can have completely different plumbing.
The first useful question here is usually what the building is made of. Corroded galvanised supply produces poor pressure everywhere at once. A slab-on-grade home can produce slab leaks. A jointed clay lateral under a mature parkway tree can produce recurring main-line backups. Each fix is different, and so is the cost.
That is why leak detection and camera inspection matter more in this city than in places where the housing is uniform. The evidence decides the work, not an assumption.
Flat ground and hillside lots behave differently
Terrain changes the work.
On flat ground, drainage has less fall. A bellied sewer section, one that has settled below grade and holds standing water, matters more there. It shows up as a main line that backs up no matter how often it is cleaned, and jetting will not fix it because the slope is the problem.
Hillside lots are different. Runs are long and deep, the grade changes, and excavation gets expensive quickly. That is where trenchless repair often wins on total cost, because the saving comes from not digging up and rebuilding the surface.
Homes and businesses across the city
We work on both. The recurring residential calls are drain cleaning, hot water repair or replacement, and leaks that need to be located before they can be fixed.
On the commercial side, restaurants and multi-tenant buildings keep us busy. Grease-loaded kitchen lines need a maintenance interval, not a call after they block. Shared stacks mean one blockage can affect tenants who did not cause it. See commercial plumbing.
Common questions in Los Angeles
How do I know if it is one drain or the main line?
Look at whether fixtures affect each other. If a toilet flush makes a tub gurgle, or a shower backs up when the washing machine drains, both are hitting the same restriction downstream. One slow fixture while everything else is normal points to a branch problem.
Do you charge to come out and look?
Call and ask. We will tell you how it works for your situation instead of leaving you to guess from a web page. Have the address ready, describe what you are seeing, and say whether more than one fixture is affected.
My house is old. Does that mean repiping?
No. Condition and the pattern of problems matter more than age. One isolated leak in a system that is otherwise sound is a repair. Repeated pinhole leaks, rusty water at several fixtures, or pressure that has dropped for years point to the system as a whole.
